Details

Following decisions by the National Curriculum and Assessment Council, a task force with twelve thematic groups coordinated by Prof. Dr. Balchandra Luitel began updating the national school framework. Seven teams formed under the Curriculum Development Center conducted field visits across twenty-eight districts across all seven provinces. They gathered direct feedback from teachers, school leaders, students, parents, and municipal representatives. Additional input is being collected through Education Development and Coordination Units in all seventy-seven districts as well as through the official web portal.

During visits to Dhanusha, Mahottari, Siraha, and Saptari, Education Minister Sasmit Pokharel highlighted the diverse educational challenges present in different parts of Nepal, such as technology access and student retention. To expand technical learning opportunities in Madhesh Province, the ministry initiated preparations to establish a new constituent campus under the Tribhuvan University Institute of Engineering. A study committee will identify a suitable site, aiming to launch academic programs within three years so students in the region do not need to move elsewhere for engineering studies.

The framework update targets fundamental learning shifts, including artificial intelligence literacy, practical skills, and examination reforms. Task force leadership emphasized that central policies often meet unexpected challenges when applied in rural classrooms. The upcoming curriculum aims to preserve national educational goals while providing enough adaptability for local community contexts.
