The Madan Puraskar Guthi formally announced the recipients of its prestigious honors following its General Assembly meeting on Bhadra 21, 2083 BS. The coveted Madan Puraskar 2082 was conferred on Ms. Bina Joshi (Rajbhandari) for her book titled 'Newar Samudayaka Paramparagat Mukundonach (Newa: Samudayaya Paramparagat Khwapa: Pyakhan)'. The book documents and researches traditional mask-dance practices within the Newar community heritage.
The selection committee evaluated 298 books published during 2082 BS before finalizing the top candidate. Prior to selecting the winner, the Guthi had published a shortlist of ten outstanding titles, which included Keshab Raj Gyawali's Agyat, Keshab Dahal's Itha, Lalit Bista's Utkarsha, Roshan Kumar Jha's Nepalmandal-sanga Jodiyeko Simroungadh-ko Itihas, Uma Subedi's Paridhi, Seema Aabhas's Mahayug, Shrawan Mukarung's Salah, Dr. Nabaraj KC's Swasparsha, and Nadeesh's Hiund.
Alongside the book award, veteran lyricist Mr. Kiran Kharel was named the recipient of the Jagadamba-Shree 2082. This honor acknowledges his dedicated contribution to Nepali music and songwriting spanning over six decades. Established in 2012 BS, the Madan Puraskar is awarded annually to an outstanding book in the Nepali language, while the Jagadamba-Shree was instituted in 2045 BS to honor individuals contributing significantly to Nepali language and culture.
