Key points
- Medical Education Commission (MEC) directs medical institutions to count only full-time faculty when applying for student seat allocations.
- Presenting visiting or part-time teachers as permanent staff violates faculty ethics under the National Medical Education Act, 2075 B.S.
- Colleges conducting MBBS, MD/MS, and DM/MCh programs must submit pending department-wise faculty details within five days.
- MEC warned that disciplinary measures will be taken in coordination with respective professional councils if institutions continue this practice.
Details
The Medical Education Commission has issued a formal warning to universities, affiliated colleges, and medical institutions against artificially inflating their teaching staff numbers. The regulator noted that several institutions have repeatedly listed visiting and part-time instructors as permanent faculty in order to secure higher student enrollment quotas.
According to the commission, seat quota determinations strictly depend on faculty members who hold full-time appointments. Under the National Medical Education Act, 2075 B.S., a recognized faculty member must hold at least a postgraduate degree as a professor, associate professor, or assistant professor who actively carries out teaching, clinical services, and research at the institution. Claiming seats based on temporary staff undermines academic quality and violates faculty conduct codes.
Referring to previous communications including letters 1063 and 1065, the commission reminded institutions running MBBS, MD/MS, and DM/MCh programs to submit detailed department-wise faculty lists. Medical colleges that failed to send these details following the earlier notice dated 2082/04/15 have been instructed to submit the required data within five days. The official document regarding this notice can be downloaded below.
Students preparing for competitive university entrances can check NoteTok, 30-second concept shorts for quick study updates, or use ask a question if they need guidance regarding university guidelines and admissions.
What this means for students
Prospective medical students should verify that their target colleges maintain genuine, full-time teaching faculties before making final admission decisions. This enforcement ensures that enrolled students receive consistent academic guidance and mentorship from dedicated full-time professors.
