BSc CSIT Notes PDF Versus Online Notes: What to Download, What Not To, and Why
A plain comparison for TU BSc CSIT students searching for notes PDFs: what a downloaded PDF gives you, what it costs you in currency and searchability, which documents are worth having as PDFs (the official syllabus, past question papers) and when syllabus-mapped online notes are the better tool.

"BSc CSIT notes PDF" is one of the most typed searches by Tribhuvan University computing students, and the habit behind it is sensible: a PDF lives on your phone, opens without a network, and can be printed. The problem is what usually comes back. Most CSIT notes PDFs in circulation are scans of a senior's handwriting or a college's handout from several syllabus revisions ago, with no indication of which unit they belong to and no way to search them.
This article is not an argument against PDFs. It is a sorting rule: which documents you should have as PDFs, which you should not bother downloading, and what syllabus-mapped online notes do that a PDF cannot. The online notes themselves are on the BSc CSIT notes landing page and, subject by subject, from the BSc CSIT program page.
What a PDF is good for
A PDF is a fixed document. That is its strength when the document should not change:
- The official syllabus. The Institute of Science and Technology publishes the BSc CSIT curriculum as a PDF with every subject's units, hours and evaluation scheme. Keep it. It is the reference for what any notes, online or paper, are supposed to cover. The unit trees on notesharu are built from it, and the BSc CSIT syllabus page is a navigable copy, but the original is the authority.
- Past question papers. A board question paper is a historical record. Having the actual papers for your subject as PDFs, especially the most recent years, is useful for timed practice under exam conditions, where you want the paper in front of you exactly as it was set.
- Your own notes. A summary you wrote yourself, exported to PDF, is worth more than any downloaded one, because you understood it when you wrote it.
What a PDF is bad for
A notes PDF has three weaknesses that matter more in CSIT than in most programs.
Currency. The CSIT syllabus has been revised, and subjects have been renumbered and reorganised between revisions. A PDF carries no version. A set of Data Structures notes that looks complete may be organised around units that no longer match the paper, and you will not know until you compare it against the syllabus.
Searchability. A scanned PDF is an image. You cannot search it for "Belady's anomaly" or "two-phase locking", you cannot copy a formula out of it, and on a phone you cannot reflow it, so you zoom and scroll. A typed PDF is better, but it still lives outside everything else: you cannot jump from a note to the past questions on that unit.
Coverage. Shared PDFs are uneven by nature. The author wrote the units they found hard or the units that were taught before the notes stopped. The last two units of a subject, which TU papers set questions from just as readily as the first two, are usually the thinnest.
What syllabus-mapped online notes do differently
The notes on notesharu are organised around the official unit tree of each subject, so the four things a PDF cannot do become the default:
| Need | Syllabus-mapped online notes | |
|---|---|---|
| Know which unit a topic belongs to | Guess from headings | The unit tree is the navigation |
| Check a note is current | No version | Mapped to the published syllabus units |
| Find a topic | Scroll | Search across every subject |
| Go from a note to the questions on it | Separate file, if any | Past questions and important questions are tabs on the same page |
| Revise | Reread | Flashcards derived from the notes, scheduled with a free account |
| Fix an error | Spreads with every copy | Corrected once, for everyone |
Every subject page has the unit notes, solved past questions with 1, 5 and 10 mark model answers, an important-questions ranking by frequency, and flashcards. The semester-wise guide describes what each paper asks, and the solved past papers guide describes how to practise from the question collection.
Offline and printing
The honest answer to "but I need it offline": the subject pages are built to read on a phone and are light enough to load on a slow connection, and a free account keeps your place and your favourites. A chapter page can be saved from the browser's print or save-as-PDF function when you want a paper copy of one unit for an exam-hall revision sheet; that gives you a current, typed, unit-labelled page rather than a scan. notesharu does not publish bulk notes PDFs for download, and does not intend to, because a downloaded copy stops being corrected the day it is downloaded.
A sorting rule you can use
- Download and keep: the official syllabus, the past question papers for your subjects, and your own summaries.
- Do not download: anonymous notes PDFs with no unit labels, no year, and no author. If you already have them, check each against the syllabus unit tree before you trust a page.
- Read online: the unit notes and solved questions for the subject you are studying this week, from the subject page, with the question tab open beside the notes.
- Make, do not download, revision material: cards, one-page unit summaries, formula sheets. The flashcards on each subject page are a starting point you can mark and reorder.
Where the notes came from and where they are going
When CollegeNote and similar sites went offline, a large share of the CSIT PDFs in circulation lost their source and kept circulating anyway. The CollegeNote alternatives article explains what was lost and what replaced it. The notes on this site are written against the current syllabus, reviewed, and corrected when students report errors through the sajha notes collection.
For every subject in the program, start at the BSc CSIT program page, pick your semester, and open the subject. The notes are free to read; the official syllabus PDF from the institute, linked in the sources, is the document to keep beside them.
