List the steps involved in an instruction cycle.

The instruction cycle has these steps, repeated for every instruction:

1. Fetch: the instruction is read from the memory location given by PC into the instruction register, and PC is increased.
2. Decode: the control unit finds out the operation from the opcode.
3. Read the effective address: if the address is indirect, the operand address is read from memory.
4. Execute: the operation is done, for example an ALU operation, a data transfer or a branch.
5. Store the result: the result goes to a register or to memory.
6. Interrupt check: the CPU checks for a pending interrupt, then starts the next cycle.
