Define instruction cycle.

Define instruction cycle.

The instruction cycle is the complete set of steps the CPU takes to process one instruction. It begins with fetching the instruction from memory, and goes on with decoding it, reading the operands, executing the operation, and storing the result. The CPU then repeats the cycle for the next instruction, whose address is in the program counter. A computer keeps running instruction cycles as long as it is working a program.
