Name the different types of multipliers.
Name the different types of multipliers.
A multiplier is the circuit or method that multiplies two binary numbers. The main types are:
- Shift-and-add (sequential) multiplier: it adds the multiplicand to a partial product once for each 1 bit of the multiplier, and shifts after each step.
- Booth multiplier: it works on signed 2's complement numbers and skips strings of 0s and 1s.
- Array multiplier: it uses a grid of AND gates and adders to make the product in one pass.
- Wallace tree multiplier: it adds the partial products with a tree of carry-save adders, which is faster.
